BMG to Review Historic Contracts for Racially Equitable Compensation

BMG has announced that it will re-assess all of its historic record contracts in a message sent to artists and their managers earlier this week, according to the trade publication Music Business Worldwide. In his dispatch through the company’s proprietary app, CEO Hartwig Masuch said the label will audit its contracts and will address any “inequities or anomalies” within 30 days. “Mindful of the music industry’s record of shameful treatment of black artists, we have begun a review of all historic record contracts,” he wrote.
