Customer Video Story: Subway / IPCoop and EcoVadis Sustainable Procurement Tools (Plus Summary from SPLC Workshop Keynote Panel with WalMart

June 9, 2016 EcoVadis

In this brief video, David Burrows, Sustainability Supply Chain Manager of IPCoop / Subway and his team describe how they are using EcoVadis to manage and monitor sustainability of their supply chain.

One of the most challenging aspects of sustainable purchasing is deciding when to evaluate the sustainability performance of one’s suppliers, what criteria to evaluate them on, where to get the data, and then how to engage them in improving that performance over time. For buyers, it can be difficult to come up with a streamlined approach, given the wide range in type and quantity of products and services they purchase. For suppliers on the other side, being approached in similar-but-different ways by many customers can be overwhelming and counterproductive.

We were glad to have David Burrows, Sustainability Supply Chain Manager of Independent Purchasing Cooperative (IPcoop, the purchasing organization for Subway restaurants) join us at the Sustainable Purchasing Leadership Summit on May 25th to talk about their sustainable procurement program, and address this topic.
The session was entitled “Streamlining Supplier Sustainability Evaluation & Engagement.”

Mr. Burrows was joined on stage with a panel including Katherine Neebe of Walmart, Deb Bonner of Pacific Gas & Electric, and Gayle Ta of the University of California San Diego.
Each speaker described how they streamlined the process for themselves and suppliers in the marketplace, and what tools, software and processes they are leveraging in their process.

The video captures the spirit of the great work IPCoop / Subway are doing in this area.
