COP30 Roundup: Turning Promises into Action

December 3, 2025
With a focus on the efforts needed to limit the global temperature increase to 1.5°C, COP30 was a a critical moment to turn past promises into action.

Ten years on from the adoption of the Paris Agreement, progress is happening as countries begin to implement the Paris Agreement in systematic ways. But as three key mandated reports released by the UN Climate Change ahead of COP30 show, there remains a clear need for broader and faster action.

Watch the recording of the COP30 roundup and hear the stellar conversation on the path forward for corporate climate action took place between Dexter Galvin, Climate Ambassador at EcoVadis and former Chief Commercial and Partnerships Officer at CDP and Maia Kutner, Global Director, Greenhouse Gas Protocol, WBCSD.

During the session, several critical shifts shaping the regulatory and corporate landscape were highlighted:

  • Implementation is the New Focus: COP30 consensus shifted emphasis from making "big, bold commitments" to the critical task of implementation and measuring verifiable impact.

  • Harmonizing Standards: Non-state actors are driving momentum, notably through the strategic partnership between the GHG Protocol and ISO to harmonize global carbon accounting standards by 2028. This is essential for credibility and market-shaping.

  • The Data Gap: There is a recognized need for a robust, standardized framework (like the GHG Protocol) for other vital topics, such as biodiversity, water, and deforestation, to enable consistent corporate action.
