Going Beyond with the Responsible Beauty Initiative

March 23, 2021

Responsibility is spread all along the value chain: from the small-holder producer to the final consumer, including of course all the manufacturers and intermediaries that enable to produce and distribute a good.

Within the Responsible Beauty Initiative (RBI), we recognize our share of responsibility and we are willing to help our suppliers improve on their sustainability journey.

The focus should not be put on monitoring the risks but on driving improvement towards a more sustainable value chain.

We want to help our existing and future suppliers understand not only what can be improved but also how it can be improved.

To that end, we have studied the most common improvement areas when it comes to CSR amongst our suppliers, based on their EcoVadis assessments.

As of the end of 2020, the improvement areas that come back most often within our different types of suppliers are the following:

  • Basic or no reporting on Labour & Human Rights issues

  • Basic or no reporting on Environmental issues

  • No measures to prevent corruption in place

For each of these improvement areas, we identified best performers and top fast-trackers amongst our 1200+ suppliers. They distinguish themselves by a high EcoVadis score or a strong evolution between their two previous EcoVadis assessments. These suppliers have agreed to share their advice and best practices with us.

We hope these inspirations and guidelines will help you make a broad impact towards more sustainable practices in your business.
