EcoVadis Enhances Trustworthiness and Reliability of Sustainability Rating Services by Completing an Audit by PwC

September 21, 2015 Alessio Arcangeli

EcoVadis has completed an audit of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) rating service performed by PricewaterhouseCoopers Aktiengesellschaft Wirtschaftsprüfungsgesellschaft Frankfurt, Germany (PwC). “More than 120 multinational customers use our online platform to share confidential information and rely on our judgement about CSR performance. Therefore trust in the security and compliance of our processes and IT systems is a key requirement for us, our business partners and our customers”, explains EcoVadis Co-Founder and Co-President Frédéric Trinel. In order to enhance trustworthiness and meet customer requirements for transparency in the methods and processes of the EcoVadis CSR rating service EcoVadis engaged PwC to audit their internal processes against a thorough set of criteria.

Audit criteria were selected to ensure the comparability and reliability of the results, for example such that scores can be compared and benchmarked among suppliers in different sectors (up to 150), sizes, and countries (up to 110). The audit criteria also encompassed IT security, based on generally accepted requirements of an Information Security Management System (ISMS) as outlined in the ISO 27001 standard.

The audit comprised the business processes of CSR document analysis, rating and scorecard creation including: communications with suppliers, registration process, methodlogy of assessment and scoring, support provided to clients and suppliers as well as IT processes that support the development, maintenance, operation and security of the platform. EcoVadis provided documentation to PwC about the main functionalities of the online platform and their internal processes. PwC reviewed the documentation, conducted interviews with selected EcoVadis personnel and examined supporting evidence to reassure that measures are implemented as described in the documentation.

The audit was a significant milestone for EcoVadis in preparing for the ISO 27001 certification of their ISMS, which is planned for next year.

PwC conducted the audit in accordance with the International Standard on Assurance Engagements (ISAE) 3000, “Assurance Engagements Other than Audits or Reviews of Historical Financial Information”, issued by the International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board. Results are documented in a report that covers the main platform functionalities and the design and implementation of processes and controls that are relevant to provide the CSR rating service. The report is available for customers and selected prospective customers upon request (subject to certain conditions and agreements).
