First annual Network Impact Report presents model to assess the achievements in global supply chains across the EcoVadis network

PARIS - (December 17, 2020) - EcoVadis, the world’s most trusted provider of business sustainability ratings, today announced its first annual Network Impact Report, which shares its model and strategy for creating positive and tangible impact on sustainability efforts throughout global supply chains.

EcoVadis’ model for impact -- providing ratings and intelligence to leverage commercial relationships and influence positive sustainable behaviors and actions -- creates and amplifies environmental and social impacts throughout its network of over 75,000 companies across 200+ industries. Over 120,000 ratings have been completed in 160 countries to help businesses better integrate sustainability in all business decisions, which in return yields concrete benefits for stakeholders at every level of global supply chains.

“Our mission since founding EcoVadis 14 years ago has been to empower both procurement teams and their trading partners with tools to measure and collaborate on improvements in sustainability performance all the way up the value chain in into their communities, at global scale,” said Pierre-Francois Thaler, co-founder and co-CEO of EcoVadis. “This report illustrates the immense power and collective positive impacts of the 75,000 companies in our network can have on the planet and society.”

The report details how EcoVadis enables buying organizations to create a positive impact with every unit of procurement spend they allocate to contracts with sustainable suppliers, thereby creating and amplifying impact across global value chains and the communities they support. Suppliers are empowered to monitor and improve the sustainability practices within their organization and across their own suppliers, further cascading responsible practices upstream in supply chains.

EcoVadis ratings then allow companies to benchmark their practices against best practices and highlight areas of improvement to increase their positive impact. On average, companies rated between 2015 and 2019 improved their score by 1.8 points between their first and last rating by implementing several best practices in key areas:

  • Environmental: 368 companies started to produce renewable energy for their own use, while 835 have started to source energy from renewable energy sources.
  • Social: 1,967 companies have implemented health and safety training programs for their employees, and 1,543 have implemented diversity training for their employees.
