EcoVadis was recognized as the top transformation leader in the supply chain category of The German Sustainability Award, the largest award of its kind in Europe, presented on December 3 during the German Sustainability Day in Düsseldorf.
Düsseldorf/Paris, December 6, 2021
For the 14th time this year, the German Sustainability Award, initiated by Stefan Schulze-Hausmann, was presented by the Stiftung Deutscher Nachhaltigkeitspreis e.V. (DNP) in cooperation with the German government on December 3. The Awards honor companies who are making a decisive contribution to a more sustainable future in one of the five transformation fields of climate, biodiversity, resources, society and supply chains. Honorary DNP winners included EU Commission President Dr. Ursula von der Leyen, climate researcher Prof. Hans Joachim Schellnhuber, Oscar winner Forest Whitaker, actress Lily Cole and the exceptional musicians Joss Stone, Chris de Burgh and Billie Eilish.
EcoVadis, the world's leading provider of sustainability ratings for companies and global supply chains received the German Sustainability Award 2022 as a company for its exemplary contribution to the sustainable transformation of supply chains.
"Supply chains play a central role in determining all dimensions of sustainability (...), the expert jury stated when presenting the awardt. "Through its holistic approach, EcoVadis enables a comprehensive transformation along the scope of impact across a wide range of industries. [...] By combining robust rating methodology and leading platform technology, EcoVadis offers a comprehensive action tool that empowers buyers* to structure their supply chains in a sustainable way. For this, the jury honors EcoVadis with the German Sustainability Award for Business 2022."
More than 85,000 companies worldwide and over 750 global purchasing organizations, including leading companies such as Johnson & Johnson, Continental, Henkel, Dr. Oetker, Nestlé, Salesforce, Michelin and BASF use EcoVadis Ratings to assess and collaboratively improve sustainability performance in their supply chains.
“I’d like to thank you for putting the spotlight on the supply chain as it is such an important topic,” expressed Pierre-Francois Thaler, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of EcoVadis to DNP founder Stefan Hausmann-Schulze at the award ceremony. “What we need to do in the next 3000 days is one of the most difficult things that we might have ever done. And for this, we need three things. First, we need big changes in regulations, and thanks to the EU for showing the way. Second, we need breakthrough innovations of which we have seen so many tonight in all topics. But this will not be enough. We also need a massive change in purchasing behavior and that is where procurement can help. If you only take the largest 500 companies globally, if we are just able to move ten percent of their spend towards more sustainable suppliers, this will be 1 trillion Euro every year moving to sustainable businesses. So we’re counting on procurement for this transformation!”
Up to 90 percent of a company's CO2 emissions are in the supply chain. The regulatory developments on the European Green Deal and emissions reductions, as well as the Supply Chain Due Diligence Act, place a focus on climate and environmental protection and corporate due diligence on human rights in global supply chains.
"We are very pleased and incredibly proud that the German Sustainability Award Foundation recognizes our commitment and that of our customers with this award, and underlines the importance of sustainable procurement and sustainable supply chains for companies, societies and our future," said Stephanie Dinter Crocq, Director Customer Success D-A-CH, at EcoVadis. “We would like to express our sincere thanks to Stefan Schulze-Hausmann, the Stiftung Deutscher Nachhaltigkeitspreis e.V. and the expert jury for the award."
DNP initiator Stefan Schulze-Hausmann concluded by saying "I sincerely congratulate EcoVadis - it's something to keep in mind if you're serious about supply chain."
