In it are 12 expert articles highlighting the ways we can ensure that procurement is prepared for upcoming challenges, which includes a contribution from our collaborative team: Arnaud Poitevin, human rights lawyer and researcher (and frequent EcoVadis blog and paper contributor), EcoVadis co-Founder Pierre-Francois Thaler and Marketing Director David McClintock.

UN Publication “Future-Proofing Procurement” Examines How Procurement Can Address The World’s Most Pressing Challenges
NEW YORK and PARIS – September 06, 2016 – Around the world, innovative approaches are being developed to support humanitarian aid and drive sustainable development. From using drones to save lives and spur development, to the private sector fighting human rights abuses in other countries: these are just a few of the ground-breaking ideas in a new publication by UNOPS.
Procurement is one of the main channels through which humanitarian and development aid is delivered. Because of this, it is also a vital component to fulfilling the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
‘Future Proofing Procurement’ poses the question: How can we ensure that the procurement field is equipped to meet the world’s most complex issues?
Contributors from across the public and private sector, as well as academia, propose innovative solutions to challenges in procurement – while also using procurement as a driving force to solve some of the humanitarian and development challenges of our time.
In the article ‘The rise of mandatory human rights due diligence,’ Arnaud Poitevin, Pierre-François Thaler and David McClintock analyse a due diligence law currently being considered in the French Parliament that could impose liability on corporations for human rights violations in their supply chain. This law could have wide-ranging impact on the way businesses procure goods –in France, in the European Union and the around the world.
