AASHE recognizes University of California, Office of the President for its sustainable procurement program and policy overhaul in partnership with EcoVadis
OAKLAND, Calif. — (September 10, 2019) — The Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) announced University of California, Office of the President (UCOP) as an honorable mention among the finalists of the 2019 AASHE “Campus Sustainability Achievement” Award. UCOP has been recognized for its Sustainable Procurement Program and Policy Overhaul in partnership with EcoVadis, the world’s most trusted provider of business sustainability ratings.
“University of California is a great example of an organization that is using its purchasing power to drive lasting change,” said Pierre-Francois Thaler, Co-CEO of EcoVadis. “This recognition is a true testament to their efforts and we’re proud to collaborate with their team to drive sustainable procurement innovation.”
UCOP chose EcoVadis to help the university standardize its sustainable procurement program across all decentralized campus locations and monitor and measure its suppliers’ practices overtime and across key spend categories – a key objective of UCOP’s revamped Sustainable Procurement policy. Together, the two companies will drive best practices and higher standards for responsible procurement across the university’s entire supply network.
“The higher education sustainability community continues to stay focused on work that contributes toward a thriving, equitable and ecologically healthy world. This is most evident through the entries received for the AASHE Sustainability Awards,” said Executive Director Meghan Fay Zahniser. “I am happy that we can recognize the innovation and leadership demonstrated by this year’s finalists.”
