Welcome to the 8th edition of our Business Sustainability Performance Index, which explores the data behind the 125,000+ supplier sustainability ratings – and roughly 38,000 in 2023 alone – EcoVadis has delivered to 1,200 leading procurement teams from 2019 through 2023.

It looks at how these suppliers, spanning all global regions and major industries, are performing on our four core assessment themes: Environment, Labor & Human Rights, Ethics and Sustainable Procurement. Through data-driven analysis, it highlights the state of sustainability across global value chains and the progress being made by committed companies.

These score trends provide a window into how large purchasing organizations are leveraging supplier ratings to reduce risk, build resilience, prepare for compliance with ESG reporting and due diligence laws, and unlock business value. Through their improvement efforts, suppliers themselves are reducing operational risks, enhancing efficiency, saving costs, collecting better data and enhancing their relationships with business partners.

This edition features:

Regional profiles exploring sustainability risk and performance trends across Europe, North America, Latin America, Asia-Pacific and Africa & the Middle East.
A greater focus on “baseline” vs. “multiple ratings” sustainability performance across global value chains. We highlight baseline scoring (first EcoVadis Rating) across regions and themes, and show how companies are greatly outperforming this baseline through multiple cycles (two or more ratings) of improvement.
Spotlights on each of our core assessment themes, including country-level risk and performance rankings, industry scoring trends and adoption of key indicators driving improvement.
