Published in partnership with le Médiateur des entreprises – the French government’s Business Relations Mediator – Measuring the Sustainability Performance of European Companies 2021 explores the sustainability progress made by companies in the EcoVadis network across Europe, the OECD and the BRICS countries from 2015 to 2020. The report analyzed more than 90,000 sustainability assessments carried out by EcoVadis on almost 50,000 companies over this period.
With France wrapping up its six-month presidency of the EU Council – in which sustainability and climate goals played a central role in its agenda – this English language edition presents a snapshot of European sustainability performance as the region prepares to enter a new era of mandatory supply chain due diligence. Preceded by the French Duty of Care Law passed in 2017, recent legislation such as Norway’s Transparency Act, Germany’s Supply Chain Act and the upcoming EU Directive will make it even more imperative for companies to drive sustainability throughout their value chains. It’s clear from the study that there is still much work to do, but companies now have access to tools that enable them to gain unparalleled visibility into their supply chain – improvement is already happening when companies leverage sustainability insights and collaborate with their partners.
