Brussels and Paris, 27 September 2017, Pack2Go Europe, the association of food and beverage service and convenience packaging manufacturers in Europe, and EcoVadis, the leading platform for environmental, social and ethical performance and risk ratings for global supply chains, have launched a first-of-its-kind programme.
“Pack2Go Europe companies are known for manufacturing safe, high quality products and integrating social and environmental practices into their operations,” says Mike Turner of International Paper Foodservice Europe and President of Pack2Go Europe. “Through our new reporting and rating partnership with EcoVadis, we will showcase this commitment to the world.”
To sustain membership within the association, all Pack2Go Europe members are required to:
- Commit to abiding by the “Pack2Go Europe Guiding Principles”
- Meet the “Pack2Go Europe Minimum Performance Requirements” that cover both product quality and operations
- Report annually their performance against a range of indicators covering environmental performance, social commitments, ethics and supply chain integrity in the “Pack2Go Europe Online Reporting Platform”.
The new partnership with EcoVadis will take these requirements a step further by including sustainability ratings. EcoVadis will analyse the performance of Pack2Go Europe manufacturers and consolidate the results into a sectoral average rating. In conjunction with Pack2Go Europe’s minimum performance requirements on product quality, this rating will ensure that packaging products coming from the Association’s member companies are environmentally sound as well as safe for consumers.
This Pack2Go Europe “Quality Guarantee” will be noticeable to buyers through a Pack2Go Europe “Quality Label”. This official mark indicates the packaging adheres to end-user expectations for safe, high quality packaging that is manufactured responsibly taking account of environmental, social and ethical considerations.
“By committing to and holding their members accountable to higher standards for quality, sustainability and safety, Pack2Go Europe has created a terrific model that other industries can follow,” said Pierre-Francois Thaler, co-CEO of EcoVadis. “The sectoral score and average ratings will act as a strong benchmark for continued CSR and sustainability performance improvements.”
