
The EU is set to usher in new rules to slash the bloc's packaging waste — but the European Commission's trade department is mounting a rearguard action to stop that from happening.
EU countries are set to give a final stamp of approval to a hard-won deal on the sustainable packaging rules on Friday, after EU institutions came to an agreement last week.
But the Commission's DG TRADE has privately been trying to turn EU countries against the freshly negotiated compromise and in favor of reopening the deal.
