At EcoVadis, combating climate change is a top priority. We take meaningful steps through our innovative solutions, decarbonization strategies and philanthropic efforts. But it doesn't stop there – our committed employees, EcoVadians, also play a vital role through their individual actions. Together, these daily choices can create ripple effects that inspire others and contribute to our shared goal of a sustainable future.
September marked Carbon Month at EcoVadis, a time to focus on raising awareness and taking concrete action to reduce carbon emissions. This year, we kicked off the month with a special panel titled "EcoVadians and Their Climate Actions." Exceptional panelists shared their personal stories, offering practical tips and reminding us that even small actions can lead to significant changes in the fight against climate change.
Highlights from the Panel: Small Steps, Big Impact
The panel featured inspiring stories from EcoVadians of different backgrounds, all united by their commitment to sustainability.
Sophie Bertreau, VP Solutions Management, shared how her climate journey began:
"It all started with a pact at the end of my studies: I made a commitment to vote with my wallet. I realized that carefully considering how I was spending my money – from daily consumption to larger investments due to major life events – could help improve the situation of many less privileged people and reduce my impact on the planet."
Sophie's approach highlights how thoughtful spending can reduce your carbon footprint. Whether buying plant-based products, furnishing your home with secondhand items or traveling by train, we can turn everyday actions into opportunities to make more sustainable and lower-carbon choices.
Road 2 Net Zero is a research project in which Quentin Fornezzo, Methodology and Research Senior Analyst – Carbon, contributed to the analysis of carbon reduction levers and public policies to understand the investment gap necessary to set Europe on the path to climate neutrality. Quentin shared what led him to focus on the topic:
"I found that carbon was a great proxy for addressing broader environmental concerns as GHG emissions are a measurable indicator that provides a fairly reliable idea of the impact of human activities. While sustainability impacts are multifaceted and have systemic implications, carbon offers a coherent starting point for quantifying physical flows of energy and matter, which aligns with my engineering background. That said, it’s important to avoid falling into a 'carbon tunnel vision' – we must tackle not only carbon but also the other nine planetary boundaries and social concerns to ensure a truly holistic approach to sustainability."
His journey highlights how focusing on carbon can drive meaningful progress in informing political decisions, ensuring that climate remains a priority for decision-makers.
Andrea Vassallo, Sustainability Senior Analyst – Select Services, found a way to combine his passions for climate and technology through the launch of a newsletter, The Climate Tech Business. Two key drivers pushed him in this direction:
"First, the feeling that I wasn’t doing enough, especially as climate change accelerates. Second, my curiosity to learn more. Climate change is a complex issue, and while I don’t aim to know everything, I’m particularly interested in how tech companies are tackling it. Communicating these insights through a newsletter felt like the best way to raise awareness and inspire action."
Andrea’s passion for both climate action and technology has created an outlet that informs and motivates others to join the cause.
Taking Action Beyond Carbon Month
The panel reinforced that while Carbon Month is an excellent opportunity to highlight climate action, our efforts shouldn’t end there. The real challenge lies in making these habits part of our everyday lives and continuing to inspire others. Whether choosing a plant-based meal, making carbon-conscious travel choices or simply sharing what we’ve learned, every action counts.
As Sophie reminded us, the decisions we make – big or small – can have far-reaching impacts. Together, let’s continue making mindful choices, supporting each other and leading by example. By doing so, we can create a wave of positive change that extends well into the future.
