2022 EcoVadis Gender Pay Gap Review

December 16, 2022 EcoVadis EN

EcoVadis' purpose is to guide all companies toward a sustainable world. Our methodology is built on international sustainability standards where sustainability scorecards illustrate performance across twenty-one indicators in four themes. One of them is Labor and Human Rights. We review if our clients put in place specific measures to promote wage equality in the workplace (e.g., equal pay monitoring). EcoVadis makes sure to walk the talk. Ensuring that there is no gender pay gap within our team is a way to make sustainability real.

What is the gender pay gap?

The gender pay gap is the difference in average gross earnings between women and men and, therefore, a measurable indicator of gender inequality. As per studies, it is globally estimated that women earn 77 percent of what men earn. Data from 37 countries shows a slight decrease in the gender pay gap trends. If these trends continue steadily equal pay will not be achieved before 2086 (International Labour Organization, 2016).

Why measure the gender pay gap in a company?

Gender equality is one of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. Achieving equal pay is a critical step in reducing inequalities and providing more opportunities for women.

The results of the EcoVadis gender pay gap analysis in 2022

In 2022, EcoVadis conducted a gender pay gap analysis of its employees (56% women, 43% men, 1% non-binary) using International Labour Organization’s methodology, comparing gender with annual compensation (base and bonus) for similar roles using the internal job mapping structure. When the percentage was superior or inferior to 100%, the gap was analyzed in more detail to understand it better and take action when it was not justified. The results showed that in almost all cases, the gap was justified (e.g., differences in competencies, contract type, additional responsibilities, and level of performance). A non-justified gap was found in less than 1% of cases, and inconsistencies were corrected in a timely manner.

Next steps for the EcoVadis team

EcoVadis’ commitment is to continue carrying out the gender pay gap analysis annually to ensure equality. We aim to inspire and encourage organizations to be vocal, lead by example, and not be afraid to share their mistakes because acknowledging them is the only way to solve them.
